This was Rene’s first poetry reading in NYC in many years. His first poetry reading in the US was at the 40th anniversary commemoration of the bombing of Hiroshima. It was held at the Peace Garden in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1985.He read “The Old Calligrapher,” a poem about a Buddhist monk meditating at a stone garden when the bomb exploded.
